We’ll sit in the dark and try not to think

Filed under: Berlin, RoboCup, Travel — Tags: , — Tucker @ 2:31 am

Twelve hours from now I should be sitting in an airplane en route to Doha, Qatar bringing my time in Berlin to a close.  I’m headed to China for RoboCup 2008.

I was hoping to write something about all of the good times and great friends I’ve had here, but everything’s just a bit too unclear at this time.

I’ll be seeing some other great friends within 48 hours, so I guess everything’s okay.

“but let’s tackle one step at a time i guess. and mix metaphors while we’re at it”

I’ve been back in Berlin for half a week now and am using my academic break to program robots and tools to help program robots.  I will post a big entry on my Egypt trip at some point, as well as the few photos I took (lots of animals at the zoo, though!).

Another thought, why can’t I link to people’s facebook profiles inside of my profile details?  For example, I write a quote from my friend Bob, I would like for people to be able to click on the quote and be brought to Bob’s page.  I don’t think this warrants a new app, but it would be a nice feature for the massive social network to help connect users through other forms of information.

Mississippi

I just got back from the world premier of Ballast at the Berlinale.  My buddy Oskar got the tickets for working at the festival.  The seats we got were, in a word, boss.  We were sitting on the floor level three rows behind the two leads, director, and director of photography.

I wanted to write more, but it’s 2:00 am and I had class this morning.  I’ll end in saying that I thought the film was greatly crafted and was impressed by both the film’s style and story.

Snotty Papers

Filed under: Academic, Berlin — Tucker @ 9:37 pm

With Bowdoin in the fourth week of the Spring semester, I have been getting a number of emails, IM-messages, phone calls, SMSs, telegrams, carrier pigeon messages, and practically all other forms of communication asking me how my second semester is going. Well, it hasn’t started yet. In fact I’m still in the Winter 2007 / 2008 Semester. However, I finished my third final today, which means I just have to make it through this last week of classes and write up two term papers. Thus I now only have twenty-five pages of German literary and cultural analysis standing between me and vacation in Egypt.

I also have a pretty terrible cold. It makes the whole “writing” thing a bit difficult at times.

Dreaming On

Filed under: Berlin, Links — Tucker @ 3:12 am

The relaxed nature of my break has led me to not care much to write anything.  I can say though, that I had a lovely Christmas in provincial Nieder Sachsen and had a spectacular New Year’s here in Berlin.

I did want to post a link to this article on a new theory of dreaming.  I really like this article not only for its content, but also for its prose.  It reads as a wonderful example of nonfiction I thought.  It still doesn’t explain the combinations of sleep paralysis and dreams, which I experience from time to time, but it does add another interesting concept into my understanding of dreams.  I can’t help but think of Heinrich von Kleist’s Prinz Friedrich von Homburg.
